Tai Shani works with various different media including installation, sculpture, performance, always with experimental narrative/spoken word piece voiced over the top. Shani plays with the violent and erotic, creating fantastical images told in a dense, floral language. Her work focuses on feminist politics but is not interested in critique. She spoke of how she no longer wants to comment on what is wrong with the world, and would rather suggest alternate realities of worlds of how life could be likened work in the future. Shani takes a lot of inspiration from feminist literature, sci-fi fiction, and mythology. One main piece of literature that has informed her work is “the book of the city of ladies” by Christine de Pizan.
