Glenn brown is a painter who is best known for reworking and appropriating already existing pieces of art. He works from reproductions of these paintings, changing the colour and shapes, ect. to warp them into a distorted, fantasy image.
“His grotesque yet fascinating figures appear to be painted with thick impasto, but are actually executed through the application of thin, swirling brushstrokes which create the illusion of almost photographically flat surfaces. The effect is powerful–often unsettling–creating an artistic language that transcends time and pictorial conventions. Brown sees these appropriations and oppositions as key to his approach.”
He also recreates fantasy landscapes with illusionistic brush strokes. This almost makes it look like the image is moving and swirling around and that it is a never ending space.
