Angela de la Cruz creates work that blurs the lines between sculpture and painting, as well as using them to create a disruption in the gallery space. The structures resemble a canvas, but they are not your traditional painted canvas. Instead they take a form that is warped, cowering, slick, violent, fearsome, and almost convey a human emotion or response.
Her ‘disrupted’ canvases has been useful to research and led me to experiment with how to install my own piece. I really resonate with the idea of objects holding their own character as well as the humour and playfulness of them when manipulated in a certain way around the gallery.
