What is Video Art?

Video art is very different to film making done for cinematic purposes. Instead it can be thought of as something that could be circulated around in a gallery setting, rather than a cinema or theatre. whereas films usually have a clear cut narrative, involve a large team of people, created with fancy new technology, and follow the mainstream, video art is usually made first with the concept in mind. As in the same way a painting or sculpture is thought about, video art is about communicating an idea through a series of images or actions, mostly made by one person (the artist), often made with a lower quality camera, are kept short, could focus purely on aesthetics, or be made in a certain style, for example a surrealist piece of video art.
